A piano is the heaviest single object in most homes. An upright runs 300–800 lbs depending on whether it’s a spinet, a console or a full studio upright; a baby grand starts around 500 lbs and a full grand can pass 1,000. The weight sits high and unevenly, which is why a piano tips rather than slides, and why two people with a furniture dolly is how floors and backs get broken.
We bring a three to four man crew, a proper piano dolly and straps. Grands come apart first — legs and lyre off, body onto a skid board — and uprights go out upright on the dolly. Doorframes, banisters and floors get covered before anything moves. You don’t lift, push or steady anything.
Most old uprights have no resale value left — tuners will tell you the same — so we don’t pretend otherwise. What we do instead is strip the instrument for what’s genuinely recoverable: the cast-iron plate inside a piano is 150–200 lbs of scrap iron, and the case is wood. Both go to recycling rather than the landfill wherever the condition allows.
One thing we don’t do: move a piano you’re keeping. Relocating an instrument to another room or address is a piano mover’s job, and they insure it as an instrument. We remove pianos you’re getting rid of.

What makes one piano cost more than another?

Location is usually the biggest factor: stairs, tight turns, narrow doorways and long carries all add time and risk.
Do you take grand pianos?
Yes. Grands are dismantled first — the legs and lyre come off and the body goes onto a skid board — which is the only safe way to get one through a door. Baby grands, full grands and concert grands are all fine as long as we can get them out safely; the size affects the price. Send a photo of the piano and the stairs.
Can you get a piano down stairs?
Yes, and it's the most common version of this job. Stairs are the main reason a piano needs three or four people rather than two. Tell us how many flights and whether there's a turn or a landing when you book, because that's what we size the crew from.
Do you take organs and electric pianos?
Yes. Church organs, electric organs, digital pianos and keyboards all go, as long as we can get them out safely. Electric instruments are lighter than acoustic pianos, so they usually price below the $425 starting point as part of a regular load.
Can you move my piano to another room or address?
No — that's a piano mover's job, not ours. Movers carry instrument insurance for a piano you're keeping. We remove pianos you're getting rid of. If you're not sure which you need, call us and we'll tell you straight.
What happens to the piano after you take it?

Clear the route if you can — rugs, furniture and anything in the hallway. Take the lid, music stand and any loose parts off if they lift out easily. Everything else is ours.
